A website, firstwefeast.com came out with a list of the “best” beers from each state. It is a tough thing to judge since you are going across so many different styles and tastes and then you have to ask are you limiting it by just beers that are bottled, etc. It is interesting to see what they came up with. The full slideshow is here, but here are my comments on a few (after the jump) in case you don’t want any spoilers before you see them all.
Alaska – Anchorage Brewing Whiteout. I like Anchorage’s beers but I haven’t tried Whiteout. I am going to have to give it a shot. Personally, I would have voted for Alaskan Brewing’s Baltic Porter.
California – Russian River Pliny the Elder. Great beer, but I think Ballast Point Brewing’s Sculpin IPA may be better.
Colorado – Funkwerks Saison. In one of the best beer states, a brewery I have never heard of. Interesting.
Deleware – Dogfish Head Shelter Pale Ale. DFH is not a surprise, but Shelter is limited, draft only and I think I had it once, but I can’t remember if I did or did not.
Hawaii – Maui Brewing Coconut Porter. No real comment, just posting this for Annie S.
Idaho – Laughing Dog Rocket Dog Rye IPA – No argument here. I will be reviewing this beer soon. It is one of my 3 favorite IPA’s currently.
Maine – Allagash Curieux – if you don’t like barrel aged beer, you should still try this if you can find it.
Montana – Big Sky Ivan the Terrible. I have never seen it in Seattle, but want to try it just because of the name.
Nebraska – Nebraska Brewing Company Hop God. Sounds like a challenge to me.
New Hampshire – Smuttynose Old Brown Dog. This was one of the very first micros that I ever tried and I still think it is one of the best regular production beers coming out of New England.
Ohio – Great Lakes Brewing Christmas Ale – Meh, it was ok. I much preferred Thirst y Dog’s 12 Dogs of Christmas.
Oregon – Cascade Brewing Apricot Ale. Really? That is the best beer from Oregon? How do you not go with an IPA?
South Dakota – Crow Peak Pile-O-Dirt Porter. Makes me want to go to the Badlands to try one just because of the name.
Utah – Epic Brainless on Peaches. I think I have one in the cellar that I may need to crack open.
Washington – Elysian Dark of the Moon. No fu*cking way! Excellent choice! I love this beer, I think it is the best pumpkin beer on the planet, but it would be #2 behind Anacortes IPA on my list in Washington State.
Wisconsin – New Glarus Raspberry Tart. I tried it and didn’t understand why people fall over themselves for this beer.

Hawaii – I agree with you since it is in my top 10 beers.
Oregon – might have to try it on a hot summer day. Little surprised with all the goodness they havein the state they went with Cascase and a fruit beer.
California – Really not even going with Younger? I like Pliny but is it the best?

California, like Oregon and Washington, is a tough call. I personally think that Oregon’s top should have been an IPA since there are a ton of good ones from there. CA is a tough call for the same reason, so many good beers to consider and I think that I would rather have Port’s IPA than either of the Plinys.
