Uglier And Uglier

by A.J. Coltrane

Multiple sources are reporting that the Seahawks are parting ways with Matt Hasselbeck. They chose to go with two new guys, signing Tavaris Jackson and Matt Leinhart.

Ugh.

I’m of the opinion that Hasselbeck is cooked, so I’m not broken up about him leaving — I don’t think the Seahawks were going to win more than 9 games with him anyway. Tavaris Jackson, however, is… terrrrrible. Worse than terrible. I thought he stunk with the Vikings — bad technique, bad decision making, just tons of stuff that made me glad he wasn’t my quarterback… I’m not sure I could stand watching him as the quarterback of the Seahawks on the weekly basis.

I’m hoping we won’t have to.

I seem to be in the minority in that I think Whitehurst may still prove that he can play. There’s also the possibility that Leinhart may “get his act together” and show that he’s the guy.

Here’s Mike Sando’s take on it, appropriately titled “Tavaris Jackson? What Seattles Thinking?” John Clayton also has a video at the bottom of the Sando piece.

I know that this has all been rumored for days, but now that it finally happened my reaction is… I’m disgusted.

The Vegas over/under is 6.5 wins for the Seahawks. Take the under before it moves.

  1. The Seahawks went from having a team with a mediocre passing game and no running game to a team with no passing game or running game in one move. I can’t see this team being a .500 team with Whitehurst, Leinhart or Jackson at QB, so I am wondering if Pete Carroll is banking on only needing 7 wins to take the division again. The Times made a big deal of reuniting Jackson with his former O-coordinator, but how is that a good thing considering how terrible Jackson was in Minny?

  2. Leinhart is out of the mix, he’s supposed to be signing with the Texans.

I’m paraphrasing, but I read somewhere that after Jackson’s “good” year the Vikes brought in and old Farve. Farve basically had a career year.

I’m curious to see who the 3rd qb is going to be now. I’m rooting for a trade for Orton. (Ideally it’d be Kolb, but that’s not happening.)

  3. Ideally you could bring in just about anyone at this point and they would probably be the favorite to start. I really don’t understand the thought process here – the Hawks don’t have a QB of the future waiting in the wings, they lucked out into a playoff spot despite looking awful most of the season and they have something like 33 million in cap space. You think they could have spent some money on a real QB?
